With the Gulf of Mexico petroleum debacle a few years ago, the world came to realize that the era of fossil fuels is coming to an end. There is now a global surge to use other sources of energy, and taking center stage at the moment is a member of the “bio” energy family. It’s called bio diesel.
Bio diesel is a bio fuel made from biomass materials for transportation purposes. Biomass means “something made from animals or plants.” It’s a source of energy that will never run out because mankind will continue to breed animals and grow crops and trees. Waste from these sources is called viable energy. Examples of biomass fuels are wood, manure, crops and some types of garbage.
Bio diesel is made from vegetable fats, grease and oils. With well over 1 million restaurants in America, someone took the initiative and figured out how to utilize this seemingly futile waste to help the environment. In doing so, a new industry came into being – one that not only helps the earth but also creates a host of new jobs.
Can Any Vehicle Use Bio Diesel?
Bio diesel pumps are now standing alongside gasoline pumps across the country. Any vehicle with a diesel engine can use bio diesel. Ideally, it should be introduced into a car’s tank over a period of several fill-ups. The percentage can be increased gradually until it reaches 100 percent. A regular car engine can be easily adapted to use this fuel by a trained mechanic.
