Spill No More: What Oil Companies Are Doing to Be More Eco-Friendly

As the world continues to demand more oil as technology and industrial advancement grows, there is more concern over the collecting of crude oil and how oil companies are doing to be more mindful of the environment. For an oil company, dealing with the challenge of finding ways to continue to supply the oil that society demands while protecting the environment is a significant task.

Oil collecting is a messy business. There are many gallons of successfully collected oil, but there are also gallons lost every day to spills, pipeline ruptures, explosions, equipment failures, and fires. However, due in large part to media pressure over some high profile environmental disasters, oil companies are now refocusing on actively paying attention to cleaning up their reputation and better preserving the environment.

Now as part of most business plans, oil companies, working together with eco-organizations, are developing methods and solutions for spills occurring on both land and water. Methods such as “floating booms” and “Bio-remediation” have been developed by the partnership between an oil company and an environmental organization.

One such partnership is Exxon Mobile, an oil company who is currently partnering with Stanford University’s Global Climate and Energy Project. They are actively working to not only revive their own reputation, but funding environmental education to prevent and protect against future spills and catastrophes.

Oil companies have recently drastically changed the way they do business in our environment. Despite the need for profits and oil supply, they have actively begun to change the way they do business and have renewed their commitment to society and the environment. Although they still have a long way to go, partnering with environmental organizations is the first step towards a cleaner and happier planet for everyone!
